Portugal, Norway and Costa Rica are 100% renewable energy using wind, solar, hydro and geothermal resources
In 2018 this three countries joined the prestigious club of those who are already 100% renewable, at least during certain times of the year, these nations include Norway, Portugal and Costa Rica.
It been quite a while since Portugal started to invest in renewables and these efforts finally have paid off transforming and transforming and transcending the status quo. A report by the Renewable Energy Association of Portugal states that last March renewable energy generation totaled 103. 6 percent of its national demand. Above and beyond their needs. This percentage was 55.5% hydroelectric and 40.2% wind energy, while the remaining percentage corresponded to solar power.
Renewable energy does not generate profits? Of course it does!!. The country saved 21 million euros and the planet was free from 1.8 million tons of carbon.
This year Norway achieved between 100 to 98% of clean energy generation of which hydroelectric production represented a 96% a sector in which major projects have been developed and new technologies have been implemented. Between 2 to 4% came from wind, solar and bio-energy energy. Norway also is promoting green transportation, in this they are also setting a new world record and in less than a decade they will give a total turn to electric vehicles.
In 2017 the country achieved 300 days of 100% renewable energy generation using mainly hydroelectric resources. In 2018 the new President of this nation has announced a ban on fossil fuels by promoting hybrid, electric and other sustainable alternatives. When more than three decades ago Costa Rica began to talk about clean energy it seemed to speak of building castles in the sand, but now the time has proved him right and the country has achieved great success beyond promises and good intentions. Costa Rica is advancing steadily to become the first country in Latin America 100% renewable taking advantage of hydroelectric, geothermal, solar and biomass resources.
