A communication and education campaign “My Caribbean Coast, Clean and Beautiful: WINAMBA!” was inaugurated this week. City officials, teachers, students, youth organizations, recycling cooperatives and local artists are participating in the effort to promote recycling, care of ecosystems, biodiversity and sustainable development. The campaign is funded by the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB); the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID); the United Nations Development Program (UNDP); as well as the municipalities of Bluefields, Rama and Corn Island.
Clean energy and waste management
Silvia Rucks, UNDP Representative in Nicaragua, said the campaign is a valuable opportunity to contribute to sustainable development of the Nicaragua Caribbean. She added that BlueEnergy and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are working with young Caribbean men and women in the promotion and use of solar and wind energy. The campaign is part of the Sustainable Solid Waste Management Comprehensive Initiative for the Nicaragua Southern Caribbean Autonomous Region.
