1.2 MILLION DOLLAR SOLAR PROJECT IN THE OMETEPE ISLAND

How_Do_Solar_Panels_Work

Thirty-six entrepreneurs from the tourism and agricultural sectors on Ometepe Island are benefiting from renewable energy solutions through participation in the Small and Medium Enterprises Competitiveness Improvement Project. Businesses using solar panels have increased their energy efficiency by up to 23%; water service efficiency has improved 26%; and solid waste management 24%.

The project on the Lake Nicaragua island is being carried out with a $1.2 million dollar investment, $ 700,000 of which is funded by the Inter-American Development Bank’s (IDB) Multilateral Investment Fund and the remaining $500,000 from the municipal government, the National Engineering University and the Center for Cleaner Production (CPML).
