Solar projects are becoming an accessible and affordable option for the Nicaragua business sector. The “Astro Nicaragua” Industrial Park is building a renewable energy project with hundreds of solar panels to reduce production costs as well as pollution generated from fossil fuels. A report of ENERGIA LIMPIA XXI highlighted that “Astro Nicaragua” has created more than 9,000 jobs producing covers for furniture, motorcycle parts, footwear, frozen food, clothing and fishing hooks.
Environmental impact
The 5,800 panel solar plant that was opened in Carazo department in 2012, has contributed to the preservation of 2.8 square kilometers of forests and is reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1,100 tons yearly. Likewise, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) authorized HMV PIONEER to prepare a feasibility study for a 100 megawatts solar power plant in Chinandega department.
