The 2014 Global Gender Gap Report published by the World Economic Forum (WEF) places Nicaragua as a leader in the Western Hemisphere and fourth worldwide in women empowerment regarding political participation.The report ranks 142 countries on their ability to close the gender gap – making sure women are not held back – in four key areas: health and survival, education, politics and economic equality.
Nicaragua climbed four places from the previous year and for the third consecutive year is among the top ten leaders worldwide. “Nicaragua secured its position as a leader in gender issues in Latin America and the Caribbean, due to its strong performance in health, education and politics,” the WEF report said.
