Power generation based on renewable sources increased strongly this weekend setting a new record. The National Energy Dispatch Center (NCDC) reported on Sunday, that 82% of energy generated came from clean sources, the highest figure reported this year. NCDC stated that wind energy accounted for 31% of the energy matrix, followed by hydro power with 27.54%; and 23.2% geothermal.

While September was a hard month for renewable energy due to lack of water and weak winds, November and December is projected to be a season of growth for clean energy generation. This increase is already underway and mainly for three reasons : the San Jacinto Tizate plant is generating more geothermal energy and has overcome technical difficulties, the hydropower sector has benefited from the 15 days of heavy rain and wind is in beginning its best season which usually reach its peak between November and March every year.
