Ometepe Island Airport uses solar energy

Ometepa Island is a small paradise of land in Nicaragua who knows how to use renewable energy. Recently, a renewable energy technology company Carmanah Aviation announced the installation of solar runway lighting cones (Model # A650) on the runway of the new airport at Ometepe Island.

A Clean Energy XXI (a web site dedicated to the promotion of renewable energy in Nicaragua) indicates that the system is providing clean and reliable efficient aeronautical signaling along the runway, improving safety and reducing environmental pollution.

Last year about 36 entrepreneurs in the tourism and agricultural sectors of the island of Ometepe showed that by using solar panels, the businesses managed to increase their energy efficiency by up to 23%, water use by 26% and decreased waste generation by 24%.
