Nicaragua the second freest economy in Central America

The recently released Economic Freedom World (EFW) Report – 2014 prepared by the Fraser Institute of Canada, ranked Nicaragua as the second freest economy in Central America. The report evaluates aspects such as size of government and spending; respect for private property; monetary stability; freedom of international trade and labor regulations; access to credit and business facilitation.
Costa Rica was at the top in Central America (23), Nicaragua (36), Guatemala (48) Honduras (55) El Salvador (60) and Panama (66) and Belize at the bottom (82).
According to report, the country with the greatest economic freedom in the world is Hong Kong, follow by Singapore (2) and New Zealand (3). In Latin America, Chile is the best (10), follow by Peru (20) while Venezuela was the least free in Latin America (156).
