Gina Montiel, Manager for Central America, Mexico, Panama and Dominican Republic at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) said that with the completion of the 36 kilometers segment in Costa Rica this month, the last stage of the Central America Electrical Interconnection System (SIEPAC) was concluded. Built with a 500 million dollars investment, SIEPAC has 15 substations and a length of 1,800 kilometers extending from Guatemala to Panama.

Regional Electrical Market (MER) transactions last year was 1,300 GWH and Nicaragua was one of the main energy exporters to countries like Panama, Costa Rica and Honduras. César Zamora, President of IC Power – Nicaragua, said $ 5 million dollars in energy was exported to Costa Rica and Panama during the first four months of this year.
