500 thousand solar panels in Peru will increase energy service coverage

For centuries the Inca culture worshiped the sun and celebrated its benefits. Today Peru uses that same solar energy to bring development and improve the economic situation of thousands of rural families.

Minister of Energy and Mines, Eleodoro Mayorga, recently presented the National Energy Plan – 2014-2025, which has among its objectives: ensuring a competitive energy supply; to provide security and universal energy service access; and use energy resources in a sustained and sustainably fashion.

The challenge for the sector is to install energy service for  2.2 million Peruvians in rural areas through grid extension and clean energy  solutions such as solar panels, for which will begin awarding a project financing, installation, operation and maintenance for more than 500,000 solar panels.
